week 27 | fireworks

July 5, 2013 by Ana Collins Leave a Comment

I hope everyone had a fun 4th of July celebration. we had some friends over to watch fireworks on the dock.we could see people shooting of their own fireworks all along the shore and we even saw some from Marionette in the distance, which was pretty cool.

Zane and I drove around so I could practice taking photos with my new lensbaby. it’s such a fun lens and forces you to be more creative and focus on composition. however, it can make you dizzy but is less dizzying when converted to black and white. I also loved the way grain brought out the textures in these images so I added some in post processing.

week 21 | child’s play

May 29, 2013 by Ana Collins Leave a Comment

this is not really “child’s” play but I went out to play with my new lensbaby and Zane took out his skateboard, so of course I had to photograph it.

Zane and I watched Conner and Brody on Saturday. looking at these photos I realize how much a like they look. they are so much fun. Brody loved having his picture taken and Conner looks like he is always posing for the camera. at one point Brody took my phone and used the camera on there to take a picture with me (he only got our eyes but it was cute). we stopped at McDonald’s on the way back to our apartment because Zane was hungry and Brody wanted a happy meal (of course he only wanted the toy). I asked Brody if he liked broccoli and he said “no they make me choke.” then I asked him if he liked brussels sprouts and he answered “no those make me…um…sick.” hopefully next time they come over it won’t be raining and we can get outside.

las vegas vacation

April 10, 2013 by Ana Collins 1 Comment

this post is late but in march I went to Vegas with my family and Zane. my college spring break happened to be at the same time as a photography convention called WPPI. I learned so much from there and was able to attend Sue Bryce’s class. if you get a chance visit her website, her photos are stunning and her before and after photos are unbelievable.

our flight was supposed to leave the Appleton airport at 9 at night. however, with our luck the flight was delayed and we didn’t leave until after 10. that means we got in Vegas around 1 a.m. we got to the hotel and found our reservations were mixed up. for this mix up they upgraded our room to one. we won’t complain, it was amazing. the photo on the left is the hallway we walked down, it was so long but the room was so worth the long walk. the photo on the right is the first thing we saw when we opened the door. the rest are random photos of our room.

MGM Vegas

I chose the restaurant one night so I could have really good vegan food. I chose Bartaletta’s at the Wynn. all I can say is WOW! first, we walk in and see the beautiful flowers and then keep walking to see the umbrella lanterns hanging on the ceiling. but the best part was the food . my dad and Luke ordered fish and the giant fish on the platter is their fish. the bottom photo is my desert, which was delicious. the group picture was taken by our waiter and it’s a bit out of focus but hey, what can we do? an out of focus photo is better than none.

here are a few random photos I took as we were walking around to different casinos. Vegas has so many fun places to look at. my fist time playing blackjack was at the Paris hotel and the dealer was so much fun. I won a little there but nothing too substantial. the water show at Bellagio was pretty cool. at the Venetian there were people sculpting faces, which I’ve never seen before so we watched them do that for a while before we ate lunch.

the last set of photos are from our last night at  fremont street. this is where I got lucky. we went to a small casino that still spit quarters out. I won $100 at a quarter machine so that was exciting! I loved the restaurant called heart attack grill. it was funny to see the customers wearing hospital gowns.
